Today we travelled to the port of Melaka. Its a very historical town and port, and at one point 120 languages were spoke there, as there were people from all over the country. Eventually, after the forth attempt the portuguese took over Melaka due to certain citizens leaking information to them (traitors haha!!). Therefore the town is well known for its portuguese settlement and buildings, which are not like those of other Malaysian towns. Later on it was taken over by the dutch and after that who knows lol, we didn't get that far as you had to pay to get in all the museums haha, and we decided we werent in the mood to read pages of writing about it all. Looking at some of the sites such as St Pauls cathedral was cool though.
We did however pay to go into one museum which was all about different cultures throughouyt the world and some of there traditions etc, such as the arican tribes, the chinese foot binding etc, which was actually quite interesting, however it still only entertained us for an hour as our short brain spans couldn't take anymore hahaha!!!!
Unfortunately we weren't there at the weekend so the infamous Jonker street in China Town was not packed but still very nice, full of old antique shops, clock makers, old furniture shops and eateries etc, which was interesting to watch as they arent bothered about the tourists at all and are just happy working away.
We had mixed reviews about the hostel we stayed in there, the Discovery Cafe. The people were nice, but the Karaoke until 5am in the morning from the locals was not, especially when our room was right above it all. However, they did provide us with fruit and sweet bread for breakfast for free which we abused, so they won us over in the end.
We spent alot of time at one of the riverside cafes which was really peaceful supping tea and watching the world go by haha. The riverfront was really beautiful with old houses lining along it and every so often the odd boat tour would cruise past with the waving eager chinese tourists lol.
As Kates back had been playing up for the last 3 days we decided to get her checked out by the doc as it was really making her uncomfortable. After a consultation and prescription we were 50 quid down but it did the job in the end and we have already sorted it out on claiming it back from our insurance so that was worth the while. Now we just have to get rid of my athlete foot that seems to be rotting my foot hahaha!!!! Go on picture it, mmmmmm!!!
One night we went to a big food centre, the food there was amazing for the value. We both ended up having a pork hot pot dish, with thick gravy and noodles, it went down a treat after a long day of pondering hahaha.
Anyway we only spent two days in Melaka, which to us was more than enough. It was a very nice town, and people rave about it. We can see why as well but I still think two days is sufficient. We are of to singapore tomorrow, our last place in Malaysia before we fly out to Aussie. Oh and I lied Singapore is actually its own country and not part of Malaysia anymore so, this is our final place. Its been emotional!!!!!!!!!!
