On arrival in Kuala Lumpur, everything just seemed to go smoothly. We got of the bus at central market and didn't have a clue where we were. We asked some people and they told us that we were near China Town, which was perfect as this is where we wanted to be, as accomodation is cheap and as usual the food is always pretty dam good. Within 10 minutes we were settled into our guesthouse at Wheelers. It wasn't exactly the nicest place but it was cheap and it was the middle of the day and the sun was scorching so we took the first backpackers place that we came to. It was a weird guesthouse on the 2nd floor, with a transfestite receptionist lol. The reception was surrounded by fish tanks with different species and lots of tortoise etc. It was kind of cool but looked a little weird.
Anyway we took of sight seeing once settled in first taking a walk down the famous Petling Street in China Town, a huge market sreet with the usual cheap goods etc. After we found a large local shopping emporium that our lonely planet says to look out for,, for cheap deals e.g. toothpaste, shower gel etc. So we took a quick look and ended up stocking up on everything for aussie as it was so cheap. We were beginning to run low on things so that was pleasing and saved us some pennies.
Kuala Lumpur is good for shopping with huge modern shopping centres everywhere, one even had a mini theme park inside of it, pretty cool!!! We decided to get some dinner in one, which was pretty disappointing but afterwards we saw they had a huge cinema, which only cost 2 pounds, needless to say we ended up watching about 3 films in KL at night. A little sad I know but when its that price you can't go wrong, plus our budget is beginning to get tight towards the end of south east asia so it was good entertainment at night time.
After the cinema on the first night we decided to go see the famous Petronas Towers (where entrapment was filmed) as we could see them all lit up in the distance. They looked so beautiful all lit up and we were dieing to take a phot of it, so out came the camera and just as I was about to push the button all the lights lighting up the building shut down as the clock had struck 12am hahaha!!! It couldnt have been worse timing, so we had to go back and take some another night. But it was OK as we found a better location to get the pics when we came back in the park behind the Towers. We also went to see the telecomunnications KL Tower afterwards which was also very beautiful at night. You can go up in these towers to get pictures and views of KL but we didn't end up doing it as we werent that bothered and we could see some fairly good views of the city from other buildings.
Anyway during our time in KL we went shopping for a whole day and grabbed ourselves some awesome bargains, especially Kate!! It was an awesome day to be fair as the shopping centres are so clean and modern with every shop you could wish for and its all air con, which to me, in these temperatures, is paradise. I could have just sat in there all day even if we weren't shopping lol. Clearly we ended the day with a movie and some pop corn and then got some dinner at one of the late night eateries. It was a really Western nice day out. On the way home that night we bumped into Rob, a lad we met in the Cameron Highlands. So we arranged to meet him the next night to chill out with hima nd get some food. Unfortunately most that day it was raining so we didn't do much, except eat, catch up on the internet on emails etc, but it was nice to take it easy for the day after our hard day of shopping the day before.
On our last day in KL kate, Rob and I were up early as the morning, up until mid afternoon always seems to be the nicest part of the day. We took a walk around the Petronas Towers park again, this time in the daylight, which was so relaxing and such a nice park. There's picnic areas and a gorgeous swimming and fountain area for kids to play in, which was nice and atmospheric. Then we decided to get the Sky Monorail to KL's Lake Gardens on the outskirt of the city. Again this was really scenice and had a beautiful Lake with a huge bird park, a small little Deer Park and a Butterfly Park, however we onyl went and had a look at the deers. We thought they would be roaming freely but it they were kept in an enclosed area, so it wasn't as impressive as we thought it might be.
Anyway we have really enjoyed our time in KL, we have got lots of erends done like posting and emailing and have enjoyed some Western style living, which has been nice. Our favourite part about KL was definitely the Petronas Towers as they are huge especially when standing at the bottom of them, they are very impressive. We are of to Melaka tomorrow whch we have heard from friends is very nice, so we are really looking forward to relaxing there for a few days and checking out the Portuguese settlement there.
