'Sawaddi Ka' from Ko Samui!!!!
its Sara here, currently sitting in a nice air conditioned internet cafe and its 4.40 in the afternoon, thought it was about time we let you all know just how much fun we are having :)
arrived in Bangkok after a very long but good flight, plane was empty so had good seats with lots of leg room, although Bug you'll be dissapointed to learn we didnt get breakfast on the plane!! had a change over in Mumbai and the airport is scary, lots of gun toting security guards shouting at us! had a short flight from Mumbai to Bangkok although there was some lady who needed medical attention but luckily for her there was a rather gorgeous french doctor on board!!! i was tempted to step in with my excellent medical knowledge and my packet of amoxicillin but he got there first...
got a taxi for about $4 (sorry there are no pound signs on this computer) into the centre of Bangkok and the very noisy Khaosan Road! we had already booked our accomodation which was right in the middle, it was not worth what we paid for it but it was comfortable, clean (aside from one giant cockroach) and had air conditioning, which you desperately need out here as the heat is stifling. we had a nap then went out to do a bit of exploring, had our first taste of CHANG!! the lethal 6.4% beer that slides down a treat when you are thirsty!! and some thai food which was actually pretty good and cheap. the only problem there, and i suppose anywhere you go, is that you get hassled to buy everything...tattoos, taxis, watches, driving licences and diplomas...but we were expecting that. by the evening both of us were so shatterd that we decided to get an early night. i wasnt feeling too great either, i was suffering from a severe dose of delayed motion sickness! managed to get a great nights sleep, and decided that Bangkok really wasnt for us. we know we should have really gone to the temples and gone in a tuk tuk etc but we were just too eager to get to the south so after a rather hairy taxi ride back to the airport (we are not sure what was worse, his driving or his penchant for power ballads) we found ourself on board a plane bound for Surat Thani in the south. the flight was only an hour long, and we managed to get ourselves a bus, a ferry and then a taxi over to the east coast of Ko Samui (Chaweng) AKA - PARTY CENTRAL. we arrived in the dark and it was getting late so we just crashed at the first place we could find - unfortunately this was a shoebox with a toilet in it. we paid 500bht (about 10 pounds) for the room and it was a complete dump. therefore we did the only thing we know how to do in situations like those...got inordinately pissed on Chang and danced until 2 in the morning. we met some nice lads from Reading who we met up with again today on the beach. it is SO hot out here, but we are having an amazing and relaxing time. the scenery on the beach is absolutely amazing, and although the main street is a bit noisy a few minutes walk and its all worth it for the view. we managed to find a much nicer room which is HUGE, with a balcony and air con for 600bht which is probably still expensive but we are happy with it. we are planning to stay on Samui for the next couple of days and then we are going to head off to Koh Phangnan and Koh Tao.
hope everything is good at home, we are missing you...but not that much!!!!!!
anyway off to have another Chang and dip our toes in the crystal clear waters dont get too Jel!!
lots and lots of love and hugs
