After a further night in Hervey Bay, we caught the greyhound bus up to Mackay, to catch wup with the locals in a typical Australian country town, and that's exactly what it was.
It was a shame though that we arrived and the only day we spent there was a Sunday, as a country town obviously doesn't operate the same as other areas and have sunday hours, it was literally like a ghost town... wilth a minute market being the only real attraction for tha day. ...Oh and Kat found the random woman singing badly on the street with a keyborard quite sweet but also odd and hilarious.
We went on a free bus ride around Mackay to see a few of the sights but we we're more concerned at this poiint about the weather and if our Whitsunday sialing trip would be running or cancelled and what to do. It had been highlighted for at least the past week that there had been non-stop rain causing flooding throughout Townsville and Cairns, which affected our route to Airlie Beach and our trip.
Thankfully, things had improved enough for us to make our onward journey to Airlie Beach, but we were still worried that the rain may spoil our sailing and diving trip that we had been incredibly looking forward to.
Not much else to say about Mackay really, it probably would have been nicer in the week with more to do but we couldn't spend long there, but are still definitely pleased we saw an alternative sight to Australia.
