Good day all! Today we were left to our own devices until noon, so most of us decided to head to Hohensalzburg, also known as the Fortress. The Fortress is located above the city and was used during the world war. It's an amazing building, which actually isn't even completed.....but I digress. On our way to the Fortress, we were able to spend a little more time at Mirabelle Gardens where we saw the steps where Rolph sang to Lisle and also the fountain where Maria and the children sang "Do-Re-Mi". The flowers are absolutely beautiful and the gardeners in our group were in seventh heaven this morning!
Once we finished at Mirabelle Gardens, we headed over to where we rode a funicular to the top of the hill where the Fortress is located. There were many different things to explore in the Fortress, but because we were limited on time, we didn't get through everything (guess that means I have to com back.....shucks!). For anyone who is thinking of visiting Salzburg, the Fortress is a must do and the audio tour would be the way to go. That would actually get you to the very top of the Fortress for the best views (although I could see absolutely nothing wrong with the views I had this morning!). One of the things we were able to see was the Marionette Museum. Very interesting!
After rounding up the group, it was time to head back to the hotel to get your bus for the drive to Innsbruck. It was a beautiful afternoon today with plenty of sunshine and no clouds, all the better to see the beautiful countryside, including lots of castles. We're definitely getting close to Bavaria! Our hotel tonight is a quaint hotel on the outskirts of Innsbruck. Part of the group headed down to Old Town for some shopping and they were able to find some great souvenirs as well as exploring the area. Tonight, about half of the group headed off to a Tyrolean Show. I can almost bet that one of our group is going to be one of the people up on stage yodeling or dancing or something. Hopefully someone gets pictures for me as I decided to have a quiet dinner at the hotel with the rest of the group and just relax before our busy day tomorrow.
If there is more to report from the bunch at the Tyrolean Show (or pictures to add!), I'll get them in here with tomorrows post :) Good night all!
