Sumbawanga (Feb 10th - 11th by Paul)We headed out of Mbeya early the next day because we were fairly sure the roads would be quite bad so thought we should give ourselves as much time as possible. The first 100km was good tarmac to the border town of Tunduma, which was a crazy town full of big trucks waiting to cross the border, it appeared that a lot of them had come from the way we were headed so figured we should be ok. We eventually got out of town, a bit hard because of all the trucks and soon hit the gravel and dirt roads. It was fairly slow going and we eventually hit the town of Sumbawanga. Our guide book had a place to stay that sounded good, although it warned of the night club next door, but being Sunday night thought we would check it out. The rooms looked ok and it was cheap so we decided to stay there. When asked if they had secure parking they said yes and showed us where to go, it turned out that we would be parked quite literally in the middle of the night club. The music was pumping, there were a few people dancing as we parked the car in amongst the party people but the security guards said they would take car of it.The people at the hotel were extremely friendly and we ate at the restaurant, as we got our meals the power went off but we all thought at least that meant the party next door would stop.
