We arrived in Newcastle in the morning and spent the next few hours trying to find a supermarket so that we could cook a well-earned fry up. After a night sleeping on the bus, you need some good food to cheer you up. Most of the day was spent walking along the high street doing a bit of shopping and in the evening our hostel had a free barbecue. We went to a bar/ restaurant and got unlimited hotdogs, although I ate so many that I began to feel a bit sick. They did a pub quiz too, it was the longest quiz in history. It only had 20 questions but the woman conducting it took 90 minutes to ask them. We came second, without cheating, which is definitely better than our previous quiz entries!
Our second day in Newcastle was meant to be when we saw the sights and did all the tourist-y things. Elena left in the morning to have an extra day in Sydney while we had a look around Newcastle. It was really windy and the waves were massive and mesmorising, we spent a good 20 minutes or so just watching them! We walked around the coast, got some cool views of the city and then headed over to a museum. The Lock Up museum was an old prison with information about its past, some of that freaked me out, especially the messages that inmates had left on the walls! We returned to the hostel for lunch but due to the wind making the temperature considerably cooler and a bit of laziness, we didn't make it back out again. Instead, we had a chilled afternoon, drinking a ridiculous amount of tea, watching surfing films and eating a lot of pizza.
