Good morning!
On the last update I said that we were going to catch a ferry that night. Well, that didn't happen. The Greek public transport system is a/ one of the worst I've ever used and b/ run by complete idiots.
We left our hostel at 10, giving us 7 hours to make what should be a 3 hour journey. The people in Athens train station told us to get on a train, we got on it. It terminated shortly and we asked again and were directed to another train. We eventually reached the airport and were a bit concerned- this wasn't where we wanted to be. After talking to the nice chap in the ticket office, we discovered that we were at the end of the subway line, but we wanted to be at the complete opposite end- we'd travelled 2 hours in the wrong direction. We got to the place we were supposed to be and were told to get a bus. This bus didn't arrive until 5.45, our ferry was supposed to be at 6. So, we made it to Patras and luckily found somewhere to stay, although I use 'luckily' rather loosely. It was by far the worst hostel we've stayed in, there was a power cut as soon as we'd checked in (paying 12 euros for this!) the showers didn't work or had no heating, and the showers either didn't work or were freezing cold. By far the worst day of the trip, and it was St Patrick's day so Grace was even more annoyed than I was!
But we made it to Italy! Getting to Naples 24 hours later than planned, after a 48 hour journey! A big bottle of Peroni is only 1euro here too, so things are definitely looking up! It seems to be a cool city, but we don't have long here- have to go to Rome tonight. Hopefully we'll get over to see Pompeii today :)
