cherbear's world travels
Last weekend 8/26/06. Some of my fellow expats students decided to take a trip to Seoul. We left out from SCH got the crowded bus over to Onyang train station. We got off and went inside the train station. Eric, and some of the other returing students purchased our tickets. Soon, we walked what seemed like forever to get to the train. I took some pictures of the view from upon of the train station. The train soon arrived and we boarded. OMG the train was so nice inside, turns out that we had first class tickets. Nice cushiony seats, that leaned back, footrest, and tv to watch, the air and great views, we were so traveling in style. I started taking some pictures from I had a window seat. After about one hour or so we arrived in Seoul. Left the train and headed inside the station. OMG it was surreal...I was in complete amazement at all the people that I was seeing. There were so many people there it was extremely easy to get lost there. People literally running you over just to get where they needed to go. I remember some people needing to go to bathroom, then I kept asking to use the phone to call a friend. I had told a friend of mines that I was coming to Seoul and asked him could I meet up with him. Eric finally let me use his phone...and I sent KG a text and he answered back. Eric told him where we were I had no idea. We went inside this huge electronic store...this places was floors and floors of stores. Every type of electronic you could want was there. Tvs, dvd players, cellphones, cameras, movies, music, video games, 5 or so floors. We went to the camera/computer section then that's when we got separted from others not sure how. We looked around there then we left there and then, we went to this Japanese resturant. It was Aether, Reid, Elexa, Eric and myself. We ordered and began eating and my friend KG called back and Eric went out to go find him. Eric arrived about 20 minutes later with KG. They were at two different places that's why it took so long. We soon left, Eric took us to some place to look for cell-phones. That was so crazy we went to this underground place that literally over 100 places to purchase cellphone from...I am so not joking it was total insanity. On top of that it was soooo hot and humid down there too. I don't know how long we looked around but it was awhile...then it started raining too. Eric and Elexa wanted to head back to SCH. Aether, Reid and myself wanted to stay in Seoul...well actually those two decided they wanted too, I hadn't planned on it. KG being the gentleman that he is offered us his home. He called and asked his mom could she makes us some bulgoki. I asked for some. Soon, we left Yongsan trainstation, then we headed over to the subway. After, a few stops we arrived at our stop. We got out and began walking through the streets of Seoul. It was another one of those surreal moments. All the lights and people...and the food. We went inside one shop to purchase umbrellas. We left and walked some more finally got to KG's home. He had a doggie...I was scaried of him at first but then once I got inside I did calm down. We settled in and ate. The bulgoki was declious. Soon, KG had to leave with his dad to go somewhere. He had to work in the morning too. He told his mom to help us out in the morning. So, KG and his dad soon left then. Aether Reid and myself began watching one of his "bootleg" movies. I started drifting off to sleep. They told me to leave and go to sleep...so I headed back upstairs. KG has no airconditoner...so turned on the fan and tried settling in. Aether soon came up and we went on top of the roof and looked around such a very nice view. We went back inside and settled in for the night. Soon, woke up and KG's mom was already awake and she had breakfast ready for us. KG had for us some cereal and cream cheese...hehe KG has been americized *lol* After we ate we watched some tv and took some pictures with KG's mom and she walked us back to Sub station. We had this korean lady asks us if we needed any help. We boarded the sub and headed over to some place called Myeongdong. It's suppose to be like the Times Square of Korea. OMG it was even more ppl there. Some many shops every kind of shop you would like to see. Tons of resturants...from Korean, to american. My fangirl moments came out whenever I seen all the items with the k-celebs on it. There were tons of those shops around there. We walked around for awhile...semi-shopping. I continued looking for Wheesung anything...well besides music cds. We stayed in Myeongdong for a few hours. While we were on the subway Reid wanted to go exploring so Aether and I looked around the Yongsan station more for the music cds. No luck...so we bought train tickets and played on online untill it was time for our train to depart. We soon caught the train then arrived back in Onyang and caught a taxi back to SCH.
All I can say that was a totally adventeous weekend for me. It was my first time riding a subway train. I had never exprienced such a huge crowd of people before ever. Never in my life seen some many places to shop. Plus I was so amazed @ how aether and reid figured out the subway system so fast. I enjoyed myself for the most place...and I got to see KG too which was really nice too. He's such a sweet guy! Nonetheless just one of the many adventure that I plan on taking in Korea.
