The cover photo which is a wine list at a restaurant recommended by the owner of our apartment was quite amusing. We sat down to order dinner, looked at the wine list & the first one on the list was 'The Big John White'!!
A lovely white wine which we enjoyed & a great meal to accompany the wine.
We left Salzburg with it's river looking like it might burst it's banks yesterday. We had rain most days although some gave a few hours reprieve to dart around & sightsee. Other times we sought refuge in museums, palaces etc.
We had an interesting time where we caught a bus which took us well beyond our apartment & we ended up getting off the bus in the pouring rain to wait for a bus to get back. The bus didn't come & after 30 mins or so the fun was over & we had a concert to be at in an hours time so there were nearly tears from me as I was very keen to make the concert!
Eventually we went to another bus stop & got a bus back. All turned out well however lesson learned don't always follow the instructions given by well meaning locals. The Austrians often approach you if they see you looking at a map, which is a welcome change from the French. However we've had a couple of times the info has been wrong. The dinner & Mozart concert was my highlight for the trip so far. A wonderful evening with some great company at our table.
We had a little hiccough yesterday which was probably due to the train station at Salzburg being in chaos with delays, when we hopped on a train to Munich instead of Vienna. It had come from Vienna! A bit of an adrenaline rush to get off as it looked like it was about to leave. Of course I was off first because if anyone was going to Munich it was John, not me!! Funny to look back on because we made the train & reached beautiful Vienna.
Annoying drizzle & wind today, but we still walked & saw some great parts of the city. Often you discover the best bits when you wander the wrong way trying to find a place. Again very willing & polite locals offer help. We experienced a Vienna coffee house recommended to us this am. The locals spend hours at these places which had a history of being a place to chill out & procrastinate from what I gather. Cakes & coffee worth walking for ages to find this place. Hoping for a couple of fine days here! Have a busy agenda with things to see & do.

Harold & Aileen Smith We've always known that John was very special and not at all surprised he has a wine named after him. The missing bus would have been a real worry but so glad that you didn't miss the dinner & concert. You are seeing so much & sounds fantastic. Love Mum & Dad, A & H.
