My flight arrived in to Clark at 12:45am and just as I got off the plane I was struck with more stomach cramps followed by the sudden onset of the s***s!
I was out of the airport in minutes but unfortunately there was nowhere really to sleep. I found a little corner with three seats near the mini mart that I stretched out over and tried to get some sleep. There was a lot of noise but I did manage a few hours sleep.
Up at 6am I had some breakfast and then started walking out to the Hwy to try work out how to get in to Manila.
I met this guy called John who had just dropped his wife off at airport and he needed to go back to Manila so I followed him - he was incredibly kind and paid my first jinny fare so in return I paid the next fare. It took two jimys to get to the bus station where my new friend had advised me to go to Pasay City where Manila bay is and spend my day wondering around there.
The bus journey in was long and I slept most of the way. First thing I am noticing is the Philippines is crazy busy with lots of traffic.
I walked around for a bit picked up some Mango and copped a little rain shower. I hate cities they are all the same, devoured of any soul or uniqueness. I new about where the airport was so I started walking, I walked for a few hours and was told a few bad directions and ended up walking a lot further then I should have.
I also managed to get stuck under a little tree in a crazy lightening storm and a heavy downfall that lasted about an hour. I was soaked to the bone and starving hungry so I found a little street Resteraunt and ordered up what appeared to be chilli pig osophagus, ginger and veg along with 2 boiled eggs - hit the spot perfectly and got me out of the rain for 15 minutes.
I walked on further and came to the domestic airport where I was informed I needed to be at Terminal 3 International - where I had already been two hours before and had been informed to walk to domestic. Terribly annoying but I was give help by 3 very kind Filipinos telling me where I needed to go, how I go about getting there and one also flagged down a Jimney for me.
I am finding the Filipino people very friendly, kind and helpful and thus am glad I selected Philippines as my next country to visit.
At the airport 4 hours before flight so time to dry all my wet clothes out and try keep my eyes open seen as I only had maybe 2 hours sleep last night.
The flight although short seemed to take forever and it was delayed for nearly two hours as well.
I arrived to Cebu where my host Attorney Kim was waiting for me - he had organized for us to have dinner at his friend Jill's place, on arrival it turned out to be a huge graduation party for Jill's brother with Catering, buffet and waiters. Just my luck I was starving hungry and wow the food was inbelievable - stir fry chicken noodle, creamy potato salad, lemon and orange fried chicken, fish, Spanish beef stew with vegetables and banana, sweet and sour chicken, salads, corn on the cob and the list goes on. Kim and I had two huge servings and then the wine was brought out - expensive Chile wine - Cab Sauvignon went down an absolute treat. I met Jill and her boyfriend Jon and there friend Joe - we sat around drinking, chatting and laughing. Truly wonderful bunch of people and so keen to tell me everything about Philippines culture. We are all going camping on Wednesday in Siquijor so we did some planning and organizing. At about 10pm dessert came out a jelly, coconut and coconut milk concoction and wow it was perfect. They had a band play which played old classics, the whole evening was surreal and so unexpected - when you don't know things like this are coming you are totally blown away when they occur. At about midnight we drove back to Kim's place oh and there is no laws here about drink driving so the road is full of Filipinos driving at turtle speeds because they have drank too much - the ride home was therefor not that scary but more hilarious because we were going so slowly haha!
What a night what a start to my Cebu trip.
