This morning Cheryl and I got up early and walked into the city to have a look around in the daylight. We found a nice spot to do some handstand photos and then spent 30 minutes trying to get the perfect shot. A lovely old Chinese couple came along with their professional camera equipment and started taking photos of me - we chatted with them and then they asked to take some more and then send through tonight to our emails - wow score good photos! I said goodbye to Cheryl as she had to head off to work at 8am and then went for a walk, found a nice park and then along with all the oldies had a wonderful Yoga session in the park. The sun was out, the birds were chirping and you wouldn't believe I was in one of the biggest and craziest cities in the world - Shanghai. The time came to head to the airport - it took around an hour and then started the fun. First thing Shanghai airport is crazy busy, I waited in line for an hour only to find out I needed emergency visa to enter USA from China - I was rushed of to immigration and paid the $14 fee and rushed back to check-in. Making it through check-in I then had another hour wait through customs. By the time I got to gate it was time to board. China Eastern as an airline were quite good, we were about an hour late taking off and and hour late arriving. The food was ok - lots of rice and the service was decent. I managed to get a little sleep but was hard to get comfortable. 12 hours after leaving Shanghai we arrived at Los Angeles Airport at 11am. The sun was out and wow this place is huge, at this point I quiet tired and jet-lagged and first thing I am welcomed to is a 1.5 hour wait at immigration. I was asked a load of personal questions and finally given my 90 day visa stamp and sent on my way. Customs was another big wait but luckily no issues, walking into arrival hall I was met by a sign with my name on it and the big smiles of Roshelle and Dave. Meeting them was a blessing they picked me up have me some great info and advice before taking me back to their place to shower and freshen up. After the shower we took off sightseeing, first stop The Grove - a cool famous person hangout and a stop at the Cheescake Factory Diner. After a 20 minute wait and some very interesting people watching we were ushered in, straight away I notice the friendliness of the staff (work for tips basis), we are given the menu and wow about 10 pages long with every imaginable dish under the sun. We all settled on the chicken breast grilled with mushroom, spicy sauce, melted cheese and side of vegetables (they let you add and take whatever you want here). The meal came and wow huge and so appetizing. I easily finished it as I was super hungry and was really impressed how tasty it was. What a treat for my first meal - Dave and Roshelle are both wonderful and I am glad I brought them some gifts from Taiwan as they really are making my first day in LA perfect. After lunch we went and listened to a band playing in the park and then headed up to Beverley Hills to take some photos next to the Hollywood sign. We took a drive down Hollywood Blvd where the walk of stars is and then down Wilshire avenue and past all the famous places like Rodeo drive, Beverley hills blvd and Santa Monica. We arrived at Santa Monica Pier had a bit of a look around and then made our way back to downtown LA and the Lakers stadium. They dropped me off at my host Romg Rongs place and then we made plans to catch up Tuesday before my bus to San Francisco. Rong Rong my host turned out to be wonderful too, unfortunately she was super busy so she had to go back to studying whilst I made some dinner and then tried to get some sleep.
