The holidays are here!
We are approaching 3months of living here! Only 9 to go! AHHHHH.
Last week our kids did their exams - a week earlier than everyone else becuase apparently we needed to close early so building could start...Molly and I took charge of some the exams. Its funny casue the ones we did were P6, P6 only has one pupil in it... Each child did 4 exams: english, maths, SST and science and they were each over 2hous long. I have decided i never want to go down the career path of being an SQA invilator - i have never been so bored in all my life and of course because molly was sitting next to me i was obviously going to talk to her thus causing a distraction to the poor child. We took charge of marking the exams too which lead me to not wanting to be an SQA marker either and also i realised that if i had been sitting the exams i would have epically failed. Does anyone know what the plural is of tooth pick? And what the actual frick is the opposite of best man? NO NO IT IS NOT BAD WOMEN for all you who think you know, it is actually matron. MATRON. I mean really, what kid of question is that? The results were...average. The wost we got was 12 out of 100 and the best was 70something. Not bad at all. Overall they did a good job. Hopefully next year our one P6 wil become our one P7.
Kitega Pride offically closed on Thursday the 18th and the summer holidays began. We said our goodbyes to our pupils who board next door to us..it's going to be quiet without them.
So Molly called her mum on thursday night becuase she was afraid that she wouldnt make it through the weekend. Its ok she did :) and not matter what she says she enjoyed it! HA. So on Friday i was rudley awoken by birthday boy Gregg phoning me at 6.45am to tell me they were on their way from Kampala to Jinja and were picking us up on the way. So we rushed around casue we always get told that traffic in Kampla in the morning is nothing! it only taked 25minutes!...2 hours later we were still waiting. But then we hopped on the bus and the next thing we knew we were all sitting in Backpackers eating breakfast - chippaties, watermelon, pineappl, eggs - heaven really, and we were getting out safety brief from a character named Yo. He is perhaps the biggest joker i have ever met and he was giving me a safety brief on white water rafting. Later on Yo made me his 'frenemy' and thought it would be funny to pull me into the water where there were crocodiles...apparently. What a funny guy. In no time at all we were all strapped into our life jackets and helments and were wating to get into our 14ft rafts. My rafting team consisted of me, Finn, Blair, Richard, Leyna, Benny and Roxanne and our chief rafter was called Alex. He was sooo cool; also another crazy character.
White water rafting was 7 hours of craziness, 7 hours which every single one of us got burnt like a lobster. The rapids ranged from grade 1 to 5, there were grade 6 rapids but we were allowed to go down them cause we would deffinatley die. Grade one rapids wre funny, we swam down them, had splash fights in them with not a care in the whole world. Grade 5? They were insane, 'i am actually going to die' kind of insane. My favourite grade 5 was called the Silver Back. The raft flipped right at the top and i coudnt get under it cause the rapids were taking me the other way so i just shut my eyes and let go. My eyes remained closed, i thought it was safer that way becuase everytime i opened them i was in the middle of ver high white water walls or underneath them. So i just chilled out and thought of how funny this whole thing was. At some point a kayak picked me up and took me back to the 'safety' of my raft.
The last rapid we did, we had to get out and walk to it cause it was after a grade 6. Seeing a grade 6 rapid made me go whiter than the rapids, i would not liek to go down one of those bad boys. I wasnt feeling fine about the last rapid and wasn't made any better when Alex said 'when the raft flips, let go and swim left' usually he said hold on...uhh ohh. The most ironic thing about our team was on the last rapid we managed to get throught the one we were suppose to flip on but then flipped on the 'easy' one. Oh dear. Of course when i got flipped out the boat couldnt remember what alex said. Was i meant to hold on? What way is left anywway? Or is it right? So once again i found myself being torn away by the rapids untill i heard Leyna SWIM RIGHT SWIM RIGHT. I was swimming right but i wasnt moving. Haaa it was funny. Eventually we got to the sides and on dry land. It was aaaamazing.
It was a brilliant expierncem i intend on doing white water rafting again :) And i think you should all come and join me because it would be funny!
So that was Friday. Saturday we were all recovering and taking some time to feel sorry for ourselves with the amount of sun burn we had all recieved. We didnt do much during the day. 3 o'clock hit and we all became alive again: One hour unitll booze cruise! I watched the bus being loaded - 3 bottles of gin, 3 bottles of whisky, a few crates of cidr and beer, crisps, CUCMBER...this was going to be fun.
When we arrived we were met with a double decker open top boat with a bar. We settled ourselves on the bottom deck and began to eat and drink. The surroundings were beautiful, we saw thousands of pretty birds and watch a magnificent sunset. I can remember my first drinks, they were good too. My glass was more in than coke. And afterwards, well everyone had a good time. Next thing we all know it is 4 hours late and we are dancing in Sombreos.
What a funny weekend - "There were some rowdy mzungus last night" - neighbours of the back packers.
In the next few weekd we have a lot planned, first thing is going to Rwanda for a week to buy a new visa. Molly and I are looking for secondary projects during our long holiday to keep us out of trouble :)
Next thing you know it'll be new year...
