Hello once again from the both of us, on the cold spring day in New Zealand.
Well we got here two days ago, and to be honest it's been a small nightmare. As soon as we got off the plane our faces were hit with the cold of spring and rain (it's only just stopped raining). We got picked up from the airport to go and collect our campervan, obviously excited we drove in to the middle of the country where our van awaited us. First impressions weren't great, the van was relatively old (15years to be precise), and the layout was completeley different to the website diagram.
However we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt, after all we are travelling!!! We went north by about 100km, and purchased supplies on the way (loads of food), it turned to night, so we settled down in a national park, only to be told we couldn't camp there as we didn't have an on board toilet. So in the dark and pouring rain we went a further 30km where we stayed at a camp sight, which was really nice, an ideal place to settle down and start the food, but then .................. the water didn't work and the fridge went off, ruining our plans for spag bol (we were really looking forward to it as well), we went straight to bed.
It was very cold throughout the night, and waking up in the morning we were presented with this dirty, ageing camper, with no storage. So typical us, we phoned to complain. Fortunately we got a full refund including deposit, but we had to return it to where we picked it up from, in the middle of know where. Whilst taking it back we stopped off at the airport and managed to hire a car for the duration of time in NZ, which was half the price of the camper, but we have got a to of food sat on the back seat.
So sorry for the long story, but we haven't done much yet, at a hostel in Auckland, and went in to the city this evening. Much of the country has a huge mix of british/american influence, so feels like home, especially with the weather at the moment.
So when we find time we will update you with some better news and of course pics. Watch this space.
