Jus and Phil's Travels
Deep South 12th - 15th October It was back to the good old little buses, like the Oz Experience, for our Deep South adventure! First up was the Scottish settlement of Dunedin - its claim to fame being the proud owners of THE steepest street in the world, which we climbed! We did lots of tours in Dunedin, including The Cadbury Factory, Speight's Brewery and a Ghost Tour! We didn't see any ghosts, but we had our fair share of chocolate and beer! We had a spot of freak weather as the wind changed overnight, making it 30C! Quite a change from the snow we had 2 days previous! On our journey we stopped to see some giant bear like sea lions rolling around on a sandy beach. That night we stayed in Curio Bay, where people were outnumbered by the rare Yellow-Eyed penguins. The next day we made tracks to Te Anau, stopping on the way to make and shape our own Paua shell necklaces - a good present for mums! Later on we stopped at a sheep farm, where we saw a dog round up sheep, tried our hand at shearing one and fed some lambs and a calf! The main attraction of the trip was Milford Sound, a Fjord produced at the end of the last ice age. Unfortunately it receives 7m of rain every year - so obviously it rained on us! We were taken on a 2hr cruise on which we got dunked under a waterfall - very refreshing, but very cold!
