Imagine a tiny island, flanked by sandy beaches and clear blue water teeming with fish and coral. Imagine a thatched hut with an outside shower and pet cockroaches scuttling over the walls, with gekkos calling in the background. This paradise, perhaps except sharing my room with certain invertebrates, is where I spent a week of heavenly sun-drenched relaxation. The mewling kittens who lived next door have never been so spoilt as my new Austrian friends and I fed them daily fishy treats! My favourite bar was rickety huts on stilts right on the beach, with freshly caught grilled fish (the petrol they doused the fire with was less mouthwatering) and the gentle tinkle of handmade coral mobiles swaying in the breeze. Daily snorkeling was incredible and I made several turtle friends and spotted a blue spotted stingray and a lobster and a terrifying eel which I mistook for a deadly seasnake! You've never seen me move so fast….
