Saturday morning, up and out early to get to Davey & Trisha's to watch the racing. Surprisingly the roads were really busy, even on a bike it took us ages weaving in and out of the traffic. All of the roads surrounding the course were lined with parked cars, and people were taking up positions around the track for the days racing. Everywhere was in chaos, people and cars everywhere, emergency vehicles weaving in and out of the traffic taking up position for the race. We immediately were met by Trish who was serving breakfast to everyone. People were arriving at the house constantly and taking up position at the bottom of the garden for the race. Everyone was talking about who they thought would win which race.
At 11am the racing started, people were betting with each other, beer was flowing bikes were whizzing passed the bottom of the garden so quickly yet so close it was possible to reach out and tag a rider. The racing was particularly good this year with every race being a close fought event, every person in the garden huddling around the radio to hear the end result. The TV coverage was even better, showing live pictures of the bikes racing around the course fairing to fairing, slip-streaming and out breaking one another.
Lunch time came, and the spread of food was amazing, with more food then we could all eat, we did give it our best effort but had to be careful to save room for dessert later in the day
After lunch during the racing the strangest thing happened, Michel Rutter walked past the end of the garden, he had apparently crashed at the corner just down the track and was walking back to the pit area for the next race. We had some great banter, offering him a beer or too (obviously he had to decline as he was racing) and then someone shouted "I had £2 on you in that race!", to which he apologised, gestured that he had no money to repay this and continued to the pits. Racing carried on into the afternoon, to the same standard, and even I had guessed winners correctly for a change, however managing to loose my shirt last time I tried betting on these races my predictions won me no money.
After all the racing was over the BBQ started as did the conversations about the day, including Brendan boasting that he had predicted the result of most races and that he had won money at this also.
We watched the MotoGP qualifying and went back to the B&B.
