It is about 1:30 and we have decided to escape the sun and update our blog for a couple of minutes!! I realised we forgot to tell you about our FABULOUS hostel yesterday! We are currently residing in Hutton Lodge, penang. It is fab as we are staying in a triple room (they upgraded us when we arrived) for a mere 60 Ringgits a night (approx 12 pounds). This price includes our breakfast too which is served to us every morning on the patio :O) This is my kind of backpacking :O)
Anyway, as i said yesterday we went out for dinner at the Red Dragon (see pic), and visited it again last night as it is sooo cheap! We particularly enjoyed the entertainment last night and more specifically the house singers rendition of Kylie Minogues 'can't get you out of my head' in english with a malaysia tint which went aomething like 'i cant get you out of my head, boy your all i like to TINK about', i nearly fell off my chair laughing, especially when it was followed by a rendition of Elvis and his 'blue shade shoes'hahahaha
Yesterday we also did some cultural type things (to redeem ourselves from all the beach pics) and visited Chong Fat Tze Mansion, a gorgeous malaysian/ chinese influenced mansion - very interesting and we visted the Penang state museum- turns out Penang and malaysia in general consist of a mixture of cultures including British colonies, indian, malaysian, Dutch, Chinese, Portuguese, japanese... :O)
This morning (Friday) we got up and had breakfast on the patio, and heard some jolly big band music outside the front of our hostel, we thought it was a party but it actually turned out to be a chinese funeral!! Apparently the chinese celebrate at funerals and as a result there is a party feel to them!! We were also told that often if people pass away in the morning, they have to be buried by midday or before the next prayer sessions so its all done very quickly!! Anyway, after this we went for a wander around Little India district and this afternoon we are off to the largest temple on penang and then onto Penang Hill to watch the sunset over the island. More to follow again soon...
