Bwana Nick here…
We departed Lukuba Island, picked up by a dhow fishing boat, the passage was very calm across Lake Victoria spanning some 28kms. We encountered our first sighting of the day, being a huge cluster of flies numbering in the millions, 'no bull'!
Took the highway towards Musoma, along which the landscape is nice and lush with rolling hills. We encountered many small tribal villages along our journey. We passed thru Bugima, which is where Tanzania's first President was born. Tanzania took that name when Tanganika and Zanzibar merged into the one country of Tanzania.
We finally arrived at Mapito Tented Camp in Ikona just outside the Serengeti National Park. The place is awesome - this is the true definition of 'glamping'!! Our tents are awesome! We spent what was left of the afternoon just lazing, enjoying and watching the animals close to camp, from the lounge viewing platform. The wildebeest and zebras pass right by the lodge… awesome! Later we had a herd of elephants come right up to the edge of the camp which was… awesome!
Quote of the day - Kevin and Nick discussing "Could this be the site for our golf course?
