Bwana Laurel here...
At 8.30am, Joshua, our driver and guide picked us up and drove through Nairobi to the Aberdare Country Club and The Ark Hotel (& yes we did enter 'two by two!). It's sooo beautiful up here and lush! The country club has a 9 hole golf course - which, after seeing numerous wart hogs on it, Kevin called a "nine hog" golf course!! Classic!! We were all discussing how we would love to buy the place as it has such a relaxed and wonderful feel. After a beautiful lunch at the country club we were taken in another vehicle to the Ark hotel in the Aberdare National Park. On the way we saw cape buffalo, elephants, wart hogs, impala and baboons. One of the "ele's" crossed the road right behind our vehicle! When we arrived there was a herd of "ele's" at the waterhole which included quite a few babies - one which was only couple of months old… so cute, and there were cape buffalo, as well. It is interesting to watch the 2 different species interacting. An information talk, then smorgasbord for dinner and we saw some genets (they look very similar to cats) but we missed the bush babies.
A young couple from Nairobi, Anthony & Wahiri (which means Leopard) were with us in the car to the Ark, they looked so sweet & loving that we asked if they were on their honeymoon. There was a hesitation and then Anthony replied 'no'. But after dinner they came to tell us that they had just become engaged - he had gone down on one knee after dinner and popped the question - how wonderful! They were a lovely couple. Also, they were explaining to us that he would have to pay a 'bride price' for her in goats (never in money) but it is not about 'what she is worth' but rather just thanking her parents for raising her and helping to compensate them for the expense, he wasn't sure how many goats this would be!!
We all laughed such a lot!!
We'll see what animals turn up at the waterhole tonight, but either way we've had an amazing day!!
Quote of the day - from Kevin "Well this is a con - we've been on safari for 2 HOURS and I haven't seen a giraffe yet!"
