Bwana Kevin here…
We embarked on a long and dusty trip to the Mara after witnessing a "cheeky" show by a wayward family if monkeys. We toiled long and hot to Mara which is famous for the large herds of elephants and buffalo that meander the plains and also for the fat pods of hippo that wallow in it's mud rivers. Offering an abundance of herbivores, the Mara makes an ideal hunting ground for Kenya's big cats and hosts her larger population of lions. Boy, we saw it all - a plethora of animal stars including the distinctive Masai giraffe (which we waited 55hrs to see), topi, gazelles, hartebeest, zebra, impala, kirks dik-dik, waterbuck and red duiker. There is also a plentiful supply of Nile crocodile, baboons and monkey.
We were very lucky to have such an observant driver, who spotted all the animals and we were treated to a close up view of a resting male lion who was tucked under a bush and a cheetah with it's babies.
A truly awesome, stupendous and tiring day that never ceased to amaze us!!!
