Day 22 Monday 2/09 Dunkirk/Calais 23 deg Sunny -
Jude here...today we visited La Coupole in Wizerne 50k from our cottage. During WW2 It was a concrete underground town the Germans built for the purpose of deploying V2 rockets to destroy London. The complex also contained a very informative historical display of the occupation, resistance and liberation of France, along with information about the Battle of Dunkirk, once again we were reminded of the brutality of war and how inhumane people were made to feel. While it has been sometimes been very confronting we have learned so much about these two monstrous wars over the past few days and can only think about those nations going though today's wars. We then travelled to the coast to Dunkirk, a large but underwhelming seaside town and then Calais which had picturesque gardens and then back to our cottage through the scenic countryside in the late afternoon sun. Delicious dinner in the village at a restaurant called Froggys, from the rotisserie, lamb for us and Enid had a whole baby chicken. Au revoir area Nord Pas-de-Calais.
