Anders was always in touch with other wolf trackers so today we headed to the north to see if we could find the tracks of a pack seen on the lake ice north of us.
Sadly the snow was melting fast, it was icy under foot and not the conditions for retaining paw prints.
It was however interesting to look at the differential freezing of the lake and landscapes it made.
After lunch we decided to go to the Carnivore park - a really well designed park with enormous enclosures especially for the wolves. At last we got to see wolves but not until they were fed at 3pm and emerged from the undergrowth. We actually saw the subservient pup squatting to pee followed by the dominant alpha male who did a leg cocked pee - it was exactly as Anders described during our first lecture. I got photos which Anders asked for to aid his lectures! This experience proved why they are do elusive. We also saw the wolverine, the bears were hibernating, I later saw this on my iPad from the parks webcam, but the lynx remained elusive; we also saw some non native animals - Siberian tiger, snow leopard, Persian leopard and polar bear.
After finally seeing the beautifully marked and coloured wolves ( today's photo is the alpha male) we had a hot chocolate and then headed back to the hotel. A park isn't perfect but after a weekend of anticipation it's the next best thing especially given the natural large enclosures the wolves are in.
When we got back I had another swim before we joined Anders for our last dinner in Sweden.
