After 4 hours sleep my body clock struggled with the time zone and decided sleeping after 2pm UK time wasn't happening! So I got up and went to the gym to see if exercise would help pep me up. I gently exercised while watching Serena Williams win her 22nd Grand Slam title against Angelique Kerber.
John was up when I got back to the room so breakfast and exploring Kodiak was in the cards.
The weather was following the forecast - cloudy, light drizzle and rain. Thankfully the latter didn't arrive until late afternoon when we had finished our walk.
Kodiak is home to the largest fishing fleet in the US and one of the harbours was opposite the hotel. We walked along the quay and then around the few shops before heading to the visitor information centre, passing the Russian church, a legacy from Kodiak's history.
The Kodiak Wildlife Refuge Centre was close by and well worth a look round- the video and interpretive displays were excellent - and to top it off John got a 2017 diary - success after many fruitless tries at home.
We then passed the Star of Kodiak (today's photo) - a ship now a cannery - which arrived in Kodiak during a Tsunami!
After a coffee and bagel we walked over the bridge to North End Park and walked its trails before heading back to the hotel and catching up on sleep.
Dinner was in the hotel then came another much needed sleep.
