(Today's photo proves Adelie penguins do fly!)
We woke to find on the in room TV map that we were not far from Ushuaia and moving quite slowly as we cannot dock until 6pm.
After morning tea was delivered and drunk I headed off to the gym for a pre breakfast workout.....the sun streamed in through the window making it quite hot!
At breakfast we witnessed a strange phenomena, hail on one side of the ship and sun on the other eventually the small storm moved across giving rain on both sides. As the day progressed it was dry with partly cloudy skies.
As always John decided to pack while I went to the lecture on Birds and Climate Change by Franz. When I returned I took our rental boots back and supervised the packing of my bag - with a few more bits to add later tonight everything should go in!
The next highlight was watching the intrepid plunge into the ice cold hot tubs - as they had missed their polar plunge at Deception Bay due to the weather conditions the expedition team decided to fill the hot tubs with cold sea water and ice - from the looks on people's faces it was definitely cold!
The next highlight was our last afternoon tea and trivia quiz - we teamed up with a young American lass, Lauren and her grandfather, Bill, she was very keen to win as we had been close yesterday albeit we tied first on the bird quiz and I had amazingly won the one on plants ( which would surprise my mother!) Today's was on wildlife we had seen and yippee we managed to win by one point - success.
Finally at 5pm we watched the video made of the trip - it was very good but the music was a bit melancholy and it was a bit long - 65 minutes - but as we have 1000's of photos we decided to pass on it! The show ended with an auction of the navigational chart of the journey, the funds going to the crews benevolent fund - it raised $3400 and went to Monaco - it was interesting watching the bidding and seeing where the money was - there were some very wealthy people on board.
As the ship cleared customs we were all able to go ashore so Warren, Denise, Marcel and us had dinner in a new restaurant rated 1/99 on trip advisor. We had to wait for the Atlantic trout as the fish lady did not bring it until about 8pm but it was worth waiting for. Enroute back to the ship, and on recommendation, we had some dulche leche ice cream - very tasty and an Argentinean favourite.
As we entered the docks we saw a large sign in Spanish and English which basically said that the Falklands, South Georgia and the Sandwich Islands were part of Argentina but had been under the illegal occupation of Great Britain and Northern Ireland since 1982!
It was now 11pm and the light was fading as we got back on board, did the last of our packing and put the bags out. A great cruise - we have met some lovely people and the wildlife and scenery have been amazing and like no where else on the planet,
