Today after a cold start, which required long johns under trousers, it quickly warmed up, so before we left I quickly removed them. Sightseeing en route to our mountain hut -where we were spending the night prior to tomorrow's. walk - was the order of the day.
First stop 'gods window',on the edge of the escarpment and a walk through the indigenous rainforest; second stop Bourke's Luck potholes, looking at the wildlife displays in the eco centre then looking at the impressive waterfalls and potholes, scoured by pebble and water action; and third stop, a viewpoint overlooking the Blyde River canyon - the third largest canyon in the world. Looking from above we saw the boat which we had cruised on last time we were here!
With all that sight seeing next stop was lunch at Karongwe private reserve - we stopped just inside the main gate and had a much welcomed, diy, pasta salad - due to the many and varied dietary requirements ( gluten free, vegetarian, allergic to tomatoes, lactose intolerance omnivores and carnivores) the guides decided this was the easiest option! We return here in two days time to bush camp, walk and game drive.
We passed fields of mango, papaya avocado and banana as we headed to Tzaneen, our final shopping stop, at a very modern shopping centre , before two nights in the mountains. We bought snacks and several of us had a coffee in the coffee shop before heading off .
Next stop was Broederstroom hut - all the boys in one room the three smaller rooms were for the girls - one toilet any two showers for all - but we managed - some took showers in the evening others opted for the morning. (Today's picture is John preparing his bed.)
Dinner was around the fire - toasty warm feet but cold backs!
