It rained all night and continued through breakfast, so we ate inside this morning. We were joined by the two guys from Belgium on our morning drive; even though we had our wet weather gear on we all donned the brown ponchos provided, and we hoped the weather would improve.
We looked for last nights cheetah-no luck - but the mating pair of leopards were still in the area of last nights viewing but several metres further back. We could only see heads appear above the grass now and again. On the pan itself lots of antelope were grazing but when the wildebeest grouped together Daniel saw six of the lions walking and lying around in the middle - several oryx started to run as one lioness started to chase them but soon gave up as she was clearly out maneuvered. We drove to the other side of the pan - as we thought the lions would be closer but they were just as far away. The rain if anything was getting worse and we were getting wetter and Daniel and Gaston were even wetter in the front of the vehicle so we decided to draw stumps and go in for coffee and early brunch.
It continued to rain through brunch - it looked brighter at times but never stopped! New guests arrived from Nxai Pan - our destination tomorrow apparently it was dry when they left but the rain was heading towards them - just our luck!! Forecasters apparently say this system is around for a couple of days - let's hope they are wrong.
The rain continued but was lighter in the afternoon and occasionally stopped so we all decided to go out for our usual game drive. A good move as albeit drizzled the brown poncho kept us dry and we saw a range of desert animals coping in the now wet desert and looking a bit bedraggled! We heard the male lion calling then found him alone patrolling his area and occasionally scent marking - I also got some great pictures of bat eared foxes (today's photo) and ground squirrels - who had emerged from their burrow ( where we saw the lions digging on our first morning).
Back at camp we assembled around the fire to warm up before dinner - as there had been no sun for two days there was now no hot water - my final mid afternoon shower was quick and barely luke warm. The rain continued all through the night .......
