We arrived in Barbados at 4.45pm after a slight delay to our flight - a technical problem! The walk through immigration at Bridgetown was a breeze - it was both airy and efficient. Then we went off to get a taxi - really orderly and very easy as you walk out of the building straight to the dispatcher. Before engaging with them however I ran off to departures to use the ATM.
While in the taxi heading to the Hilton we reflected on how nice the airport was and the driver confirmed that they had invested quite a lot of money into it. When counted back we reckoned we were probably last there 10-15 years ago.( Seoul World Cup was on? ) The drive certainly exposed lots of investment on the south coast - including new shops and a redesigned waterfront. 25 minutes later we arrived at the Hilton on Needhams Point - a lovely hotel and it was exactly where we stayed relaxing until our departure on 16/4 except for a Saturday afternoon walk to the races. They have racing at Garrison Savannah, only a 10 minute walk away, every two weeks or so and it was a great experience. You could see the strong colonial links to the sport of kings but it was an event enjoyed by lots of locals who were in the stands alongside a good clutch of tourists who were made very welcome.
On our way back to the hotel we stopped at a nice restaurant called Brown Sugar for supper - the heat had made us tired and we yawned between courses- a goodnights sleep was really on the cards though after we tried the Caribbean coffee - rum based but very nice - it nearly blew our heads off!
