The next day the weather was more like we were hoping for so we headed to the botanical gardens in the city in the morning before catching our flight to Dan's on the Gold Coast. Dan met us at the airport, picking us up in a very flash car! We then went to the train station to pick up his friend Hannah. We got back to Dan's very plush pad which boasted a pool, spa and a gym and met everyone else, Keelie, Ross, Marksy and his flat mate Nimo. In the evening the boys went out for a curry and the girls had some food in before meeting the boys in a bar in town. We then met everyone else who Dan works with. The bar shut at 12pm on Christmas Eve so we all headed back to the flat.
CHRISTMAS DAY!! We had a brilliant Christmas Day. The weather was gorgeous so before breakfast we all headed to the pool. The beaches were closed because the cyclone in Darwin had made the sea too rough to swim. Dan's friend Tom then arrived to join us for Christmas day. Tom and Dan then cooked a fried breakfast for everyone which was great! To make us all feel in a Christmas mood we watched Love Actually before starting the cooking for Christmas Dinner. Dan had bought soo much food and he did most of the cooking. To start we had prawns and smoked salmon. Then to follow we had traditional turkey, lamb and ham with all the trimmings, including pigs in blankets which everyone was excited about!! We then had pavlova and apple crumble for dessert! It was a feast!! After dinner we opened our secret santa presents. J got an international beer collection and Rachel got a lovely top and some pink bubbly! Great! The boys favourite present was the big black rubber c*** that Ross was given! We then all started to get ready for the party at Harrys one of Dan's friends. The boys had been drinking from about 9am but then started on straight whisky. The house party was good, the house was soo plush, with its own pool which backed on to the river. After drinking all our alcohol people began to leave so we all went. Dan was also realllly drunk and had ripped his shirt and trousers which was funny! After getting the taxi back to the complex we went to Brendan's flat before going back to Dan's. We then skyped our parents and Esther before going to bed. It was quite amusing speaking to our parents drunk!
The weather was even better on Boxing Day so we went to the pool again. The beaches were still closed because of the swell. In the afternoon we headed in to town with Hannah and Marksy. We all then had a BBQ by the pool in the evening, it was yummy.
The days in between Christmas and New Year were spent relaxing by the pool mainly, we only had a couple of cloudy days where we went in to town and watched films. On Boxing Day evening we all had a BBQ by the pool which was really nice, we still had lots of food left over from Christmas Day! Marsky left for Brisbane on the 27th and the others flew to Sydney on the 29th ready for New Year. We agreed that we would work with Dan in New Year's Eve on the club crawl he sells tickets for. So we knew what we were doing we also worked on the Wednesday night. The evening went well; we started at 5pm and just had to hand out stickers for the traffic light party. It is amazing how excited people get for stickers. We then went to 5 venues and finished at about 10pm. We stayed for a couple of drinks as the staff get a tab behind the bar and we got free drinks in some places so was fun and good because we got in all the clubs for free without having to work too hard!!
Dan's friend Mark arrived on New Year's Eve, he also worked the crawl. On New Year there were 5 crawls with 450 people on each so it was a bit crazier, but after getting everyone in to the first bar it went better. As it was New Year too we got more drinks and then all the staff had a $1200 tab at Billy's Beach-house which was cool! You could also see the fireworks on the beach from the balcony which was cool, although they weren't as spectacular as the ones in Sydney, by a long way! We had a fun night though!
New Year's Day mainly consisted of eating a lot! Nimo was still on a major high from the night before so wanted us all to go out. The boys did a shot of Jager in the morning before we headed out. We went to Melbas where they do $2 steaks; they were really good for the price. Rachel then went back to the apartment to recover while the boys went to Dan's friend Scott. In the evening Rachel then met them in town for a Chinese.
On the 2nd we all went to the Festival 'Summer Field Dayze'. We woke up and cooked an English breakfast by the pool to line our stomachs. We had the champagne that Rachel got in secret Santa before the boys started on the whiskeys. Others joined us by the pool before we all got a water taxi to the festival. It was such a good day. Dan managed to sneak in some Whiskey in a sandwich bag down his trousers and the previous night before we had washed out a sun cream bottle and filled it with vodka which Rachel then got through in her bag. A great trick that Keelie had told us about! The drinks are expensive in the festival so it was worthwhile taking in some with you! We saw some great acts, our favourite's being, Justice, Snoop Dog, Calvin Harris and Scissor Sisters. It was such a good day, the weather was perfect for it and we just had a laugh with everyone. A good thing to round of our time in Surfers! Have loved it! Thanks Dan!
