The overnight journey to Foz de Iguazu was relatively comfortable and we both managed to sleep well, apart from an old Brazilian man next to us coughing up all the rubbish in his lungs from smoking but then still smoking at every comfort break. We shared a taxi with an Irish couple as they were staying in the same hostel. The weather in Foz de Iguazu was raining and dull, but as the hostel said it was not set to change for the next 4 days we decided to visit the Brazilian side of the falls as there was not much to do in the town itself.
The first glimpse of the waterfalls was breathtaking, neither of us expected the sheer size of them...all together there is 285 waterfalls stretching 2km wide. The view was very impressive. We followed the trail seeing different perspectives of the waterfalls. Finally we reached 'devils throat' (the largest waterfall) and walked across the bridge and got drenched from the spray! The sound of the water (2000m3 per second) crashing against the rocks at the bottom was tremendous. It was one of the best natural sites either of us had seen.
We spent the night chatting to 3 German girls and the Irish couple on their honeymoon, around the hostel bar. We were planning to cross the Brazilian boarder in to Argentina the next day on our own as we were told we had to see both sides of the waterfalls but a man from the hostel recommended we did it through the hostel.
