Today we went to 3 waterfalls. They were all beautiful :o) I swam in 2. Well, I say swam. More sat in one and clung to rocks in the other. It was still pretty special.
The first was Jim Jim Falls. Here is where I clung to the rock. It was always really hot a humid now, so the cool temperature of the water was perfect. Especially after the 45 minute walk to get there. I was only a little bit afraid of being got at by something in the water, be it a croc, or snake or spider. Charles was so afraid that he didn't swim at all. I found out afterwards that there is a risk of being got by something, but the likelihood of it being a croc is reduced by the rangers using high-beams at nights to see and capture them. Mike couldn't swim, because he had an ear infection :o( Gemma didn't swim either; I don't know why.
The boys and girls were in earnest play - trying to be the first to swim to the waterfall but being beaten back by the current. I watched from my rock. When I'd had enough I towelled off and sat in my kaftan, soaking up the sounds, smells and cooling breeze :o)
The second waterfall was a shorter walk; about 30 minutes. We had to go over a rope bridge :oD This waterfall was smaller and there was a nice and 'just deep enough pool' off to one side. Me and the other that are not to keen on swimming either set ourselves up in this pool. I was having a very serene time. I was trying to capture the feeling of the cool refreshing water and the sound of the waterfall and birds. I like to try to moments like this for use later when I'm stressed - I can go to one of my happy places to chillout. Unfortunately my happy moment was ruined by Chris, who decided to do a big bomb in our pool. This was mainly to impress Christina, I'm sure, who had come over to our pool. Grrrr. I was v pissed off with Chris for this. I had a little outburst, which he didn't notice. I got out the pool soon after as I could not return to the feeling of bliss :o(
On the way back to the minibus I think that Morton tried to talk to me, but I was too annoyed so avoided it.
The last waterfall was very close to where we parked - 5-10 mins away. I needed to go to the toilet. There were no man-made facilities, so I wondered into the bush singing my 'leave me alone little snake' song whilst clapping my hands.
I decided not to swim in last. It didn't look great for people who don't swim well. There was a shallow bit off to one side, but it was very shallow - waist level when sat down at the most. It didn't seem worth all the undressing and redressing. I did paddle a bit.
Mike was wet and I was happy that he'd had a swim. Apparently he didn't so much 'go for a swim', as opposed to 'fell in the water' - LOL. Luckily, he'd managed to keep his infected ear above water.
Charles and me sat on this bridge bit and watched foolhardiness in action. There was a quite shear cliff face which someone from another group took upon themselves to climb. Of course, once one started the other guys had to join in. After all, there were ladies to impress. Then obviously the girls couldn't look like they were weak, and they joined in too. Charles and I were mystified by the display of stupidity. Luckily they got tired and stopped before anyone got hurt. That would not have been a nice end to the day.
Got back to the campsite. I was almost out of clean clothes. I had a shower, but I didn't want to put on anything dirty or sweat in something I was to wear the next day. So I turned the scarf I bought in Marrakech into an off-the-top. Celine complemented me on it :o)
I told Chris before dinner that he had pissed me off earlier that day. He hadn't notice. Others had. Think I gained some respect with my honesty and straight-talking.
Had a good night that night. Good conversation and laughs. I think I impressed people with my musical knowledge and ability to take out of burglars. Charles is very funny when he's drunk. He said something that reminded me of Curtis and Ismall - How to Chill with the Bros. He had me in stitches :oD
