Dear family & friends,
I left Melbourne with the words: veni, vidi, vici. I came, I saw, I conquered!
My time there was as nice as it was successful, but it was time to move on and so it was good timing, that 3 guys I "knew" from Kiel (not exactly friends until then) arrived in Melbourne as I was about to leave. We spent New Year's Eve together getting drunk on Flinders Square (central point of Melbourne), where we also watched the fireworks.
Having spent a couple of days together, we tried to find a job for all of us, which was not exactly possible due to the fact that it is fire danger season and there is no work during this time. So the others decided to travel the "Great Ocean Road" instead, which seemed a good alternative to me, so I accompanied them.
This was 4 weeks ago, we are now in Adelaide and I can truely say I had an awesome time since I last wrote! We have a 4WD, as you can see on the pictures, sleeping in the tent on top or in the camp bed is pretty good and no one cares how we look...It's most definately the best way to travel in OZ! We even had 3 real showers at the beach in the last month (doesn't seem good, but it really is, before we had to "shower" in the ocean after we realised it had go a bit too much...........)
So far we travelled to Phillipe Island, where we saw the penguin parade, Pyamid Rock and spent a great day at Woolomai Beach (5 people nearly drowned, but at least we had fun), stayed at a wonderful beach called Johanna Beach for a week (had flushing toilets as well=a massive plus), saw seals, the Erskine Falls and Kennet River, the small town known for its many in freedom living koalas, spent another 2 days at amazing Cape Bridgewater, had a day off from the ocean in Murray Bridge's swimming pool and camped at a nice place at Lake Alexandria.
Now we are in a hostel (Backpack OZ) in Adelaide, where we partied because it was Australia Day....And then we partied because we can and had another great 2 days here.
What might be interesting to hear: I've been to Admiral Sir John Hindmarsh's memorial place, a nice park called Hindmarsh Square. Not only is this square dedicated to him, also the football stadium of Adelaide United is called Hindmarsh Stadium, as is a suburb of town! Our family is famous! Nice thought I believe.
The plan for the next weeks is the following: I am happy to say I will continue to travel with my new friends and it is rain season in the north, and summer in the east, so we decided it would be best to enjoy summer in the east, meaning we will travel in the direction of Brisbane next, and I can't believe I will be at places like Surfers Paradise already so soon! Awesome!
As for now, I hope you can all enjoy the charme of the winter..
Lots of love, Josh
