Cape Town...8-9th April.............The harbour area is very very good. A very large complex of shops and restaurants. We explored this for a while, and the weather being absolutely perfect, we caught the red bus which is an open topped affair and which took us around the city, with a running commentary. We got off at the bottom of the cable car which ascends Table Mountain, which looks very spectacular and is on the edge of town.Trouble was, it was Easter Sunday with crowds everywhere, which resulted in a one hour waiting time to go up the mountain, with a probable longer wait to come down.So we passed on that, and got back on the bus to the delightful beach resort of Camp Bay. We had a long leisurely lunch on a balcony overlooking the beach, then caught the bus back again to town, and hit the shops again.Cape Town is a great city with lots to see and do. .............................................On Monday we were booked on an organised tour. This was really excellent and was arranged for us by our travel agent at no cost. We traveled by bus along the coast road then turned inland over a mountain pass, claimed to be one of the three most beautiful roads in the world. Absolutely spectacular! Then down to visit the home of a world renowned sculptress, Jean Doyle. Her lovely home contained many of her bronze statues. Her garden was superb with a view of Table Mountain, and contained many more statues. A large building at the bottom of the garden was a display room with many more examples of her prolific sculpting.Wonderful stuff, but way out of our price range. We were given champagne and little things on sticks. She was a most charming lady living in her lovely home with her son and husband, not forgetting her two Great Danes who we were introduced to and made a fuss of.On then through the Constanza wine district to a five star hotel for a great lunch.Back then to the harbour for a final walk around before boarding ship and sailing away with very pleasant memories. .........................................................Namibia.......Wed 11th April.......We docked at Walvis Bay which was quite a pleasant town. Very clean and tidy.We hired a taxi for a few hours with another couple and went along the coast past the edge of the desert with impressive sand dunes. Very interesting drive. We stopped in the seaside resort town of Swakopmund. A very nice place, and very much in contrast to earlier reports we had had from other people. We really liked it.A lovely beach, the desert just outside, and further north, jungle country with safaris and holiday features. Very cheap also, would you believe 75 cents for a good cup of coffee. Back in Walvis Bay we went to beach which is home to hundreds of Flamingoes. Further out are large colonies of seals. Unfortunately we only had half a day here, and would have like much more time to explore this nice place.
