We stopped in Skuon on the way to Siem Reap for the sum total of about fifteen minutes, but I wanted to use the opportunity to comment on a couple of generic, non-place specific things without ruining the route on my blog map. And also, I thought there was no harm in mentioning that Skuon's local delicacy is fried spiders. A type of tarantula, about half the size of your hand, and there were trays piled high with them ready for hungry travellers as our bus pulled in. Legs like chicken, apparently, but the brown paste in the abdomen isn't quite as pleasant. And no, I didn't.
Generic things, though: firstly, I've noticed a feature on my blog site that enables me to add people's email addresses to a contact list, and when I add a blog entry it'll fire off email notifications to everyone. So, if anyone would like to be added to this list, please just let me know! (Em, you're already the guinea pig on this list, as I know I'm meant to have been telling you anyway, but keep forgetting).
Secondly, I've just finished reading a really interesting book, "The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists", by Robert Tressall, which is a fictional account, based on actual people and events, of British working life around the turn of the 20th century, just before the advent of socialism as a mainstream political school of thought. It's really interesting in its own right, however also, coincidentally for me, and inadvertently of course, has fascinating parallels with present day Cambodia. Anyone not interested in socio-political commentary, please just wait for the next blog entry, but if you are, check back in a couple of days when I've typed this up!...
