Road Trip Baaaaaaaaaaaaaby!
Our first Road trip in Australia was from Melbourne to Sydney to spend New Year. We left on the 28th of Dec in our Campervan with our two housemates Laura and Evan and also Lauras visiting friend Jay. We headed up through Victoria getting into Wodonga on the Victoria/New South Wales border to spend the night. We checked into a Caravan park and got some beers and food to have a BBQ dinner. Spent the night playing drinking games around the tent.
Next day woke up very early, got showered and hit the road to get to Canberra with enough time to check out all the sights it had to offer. Made good time from Wodonga and arrived in Canberra around 1pm. Once we got there we booked ourselves into Caravan Park then drove into the Centre to check out the main sights. 1st stop was the Parliament House and surrounding grounds which were quite good to see. The Parliament had a huge Aussie flag flying high above it and was quite picturesque with a water fountain and a big plaque with Australia's coat of Arms above the main entrance. After the Parliament we headed to Black Mountain where phone company Telstra had a big tower. Myself and Evan headed up the tower which had spectacular views over Canberra and The Australian Capital Territory.
Once we left the mountain we headed back to Canberra Centre and drove down Commonwealth Avenue where all the foreign embassies were. Checked out all our Home Embassies where i was tempted to get out and Moon the Canadian one but Evan drove off too quick for me to get out haha. After Commonwealth we drove down Anzac Parade which had around 20 monuments in recognition to all different wars Australians have been involved in. This was excellent to see and myself and Brishay could relate alot to the information provided due to just coming from most of the countries previously.
After the monuments we headed back to the campsite where we staged Round 2 of the Road Trip. Bought some more beers and had a BBQ but this time treated ourselves to some big Sirloin steaks which were top notch. After the grub we played more drinking games with Evan being the most drunk (No shock there really) and showing us his famous party trick. He fills an empty beer bottle up with Lighter gas then lights the fumes at the neck of the bottle creating a blue flame to rise out and make a cool sound. However if he doesn't pull away quick enough he gets burnt and previous he had never been burnt until now haha. All other times we had never filmed but this time we did and was the funniest thing i have ever seen. What a TOOL lol.
Following morning all woke up rough as a badgers arse with the Campsite owners telling us to be on our way as were far to loud the night before lol. I was probably the most sober so i drove out of Canberra to head for Sydney. We were all hung over, that much so that none us even noticed we were driving out the campsite with our boot still open haha. Leaving Canberra going through a small town called Yass there was a Police Check. They were breathalising everyone and i was absolutely bricking it, luckily enough i passed the test and drove off. Now idea how i passed as the policeman was near enough knocked out by the smell of Jack Daniels coming of my breathe haha.
This was the 30th of Dec and arrived in Sydney in good time to drive around and check out the surrounding sights. Drove around mainly in the Northern Sydney finding the best spot to watch the New Year fireworks from the following night. Weather again was superb so drove down to a nearby beach and just chilled the remainder of the night with a nice Chinese take away. Following Day was New Years eve so to avoid the crowds we got down to Whitting Beach which had amazing views across the harbour towards the Opera House and Harbour bridge. Stayed there all day just drinking and enjoying the sunshine waiting for the firework spectacle to arrive at midnight. There were fireworks at hourly intervals counting up to midnight but when midnight hitand we have never seen anything like it. Was about 20minutes of the most spectacular fireworks we have ever seen which the both us just felt a bit overwhelmed to be watching really. Hugged and wished everyone a Happy New Year that was in our company and phone home to wish them the same even if it was 9hours early for them lol. Left Sydney at 1am as wanted to get far down the coats out of the traffic so could make good time to spend Brishays birthday on the 2nd somewhere nice. That night got about 1 hours south and just parked up on a quiet road to sleep until morning. Morning came and we drove South down the NSW coastline stopping in firstly at Jervis Bay. Jervis Bay was absolutley gorgeous, weather again was superb so me and Evan took a dip in the bay whilst the girls enjoyed the sunshine. Was so picturesque and would have loved to stay there the whole day but were on a bit of a tight schedule so left after an hour or so. That night got as far down as Eden right on the South Eastern corner of Australia which is famous for Whale Watching. Unfortunately was not the season but hopefully when we do eventually do our travels around will get to do some whale watching then. That night we just chilled and had early night as had early morning to get to Lakes Entrance as early as we could.
Got to Lakes Entrance on the South Coast of Victoria quite early on and checked into our last Campsite of the Road Trip. This was the 2nd and Brishays birthday so the whole day we just chilled on the 90mile stretch of sand drinking some champagne and enjoying the sunshine. Brishay enjoyed opening up her cards and presents from home which were greatly appreciated. That night we surprised Brishay with a meal at really nice restaurant where we all had amazing food then headed out to celebrate with a barrel more drinks. Found one place open late so just stayed there getting of our trolleys and celebrating the old girl's bday lol. Following morning drove homeward to Melbourne to end our first Road trip in Auz and return our rented campervan.
Had an absolute blast on the Road Trip for New Year and B's Birthday. Canberra is defo worth a stop if you have time around the area and is quite a nice way to split the drive up on the way to Sydney. We didn't do much apart from the fireworks in Sydney mainly because we know we will be back again so no point in doing it twice sort of thing. However the New Year celebrations were out of this world, both very privileged to witnessed it and would urge everyone to get to Sydney for at least one new year in there lives. Coastline down to Lakes Entrance again was beautiful particularly Jervis Bay which was just amazing. Lakes Entrance is only around 4 hours drive from Melbourne and was also superb to have seen and celebrate B's Birthday. Seen and down alot on this trip and has just made us even more excited to eventually get on the road and see everything Auz has to offer.
