Hi Everyone!
Tonight we are flying to Australia and we are unbelieveably excited!! Its absolutely crazy that we are going to be in Oz tomorrow!
Singapore:
We were happy to arrive in Singapore knowing that we would get back to western comforts. We found an ok but a bit pricey hotel to stay in. We wanted a nice room to treat ourselves after all the slumming of the last 3 months! Our hotel is in a really central location and just down the road from the waterfront and the famous Raffles Hotel!
Immediately, we noticed that the city was modern, clean and very western. Everyone speaks english! The shopping malls over here are incredible! I'm well sad that i can't buy anything! Jonny won't even let me window shop! Lol.
On the first evening, we headed to the waterfront via St Andrews Cathedral and the Cricket Club. The Cathedral was great and luckily on the playing fields by the cricket club there was a rugby game and a football game going on! We both soaked up a bit of englishness! We headed to the front and we were amazed by the skyline. We took a walk along the esplanade to see the hedgehog like theatres. As we were right by the Singapore Flyer (larger version of the london eye) we decided to go up. We went up in the dark and the city was just breathtaking all lit up. Really beautiful. We grabbed some delicous street food from a popular place on the front. There was also an Indian band playing on a stage on the esplanade so we bought some popcorn and watched.
On the next day, we contiued our sightseeing. We had planned to go on the cable cars to Sentosa Island but unfortunately they were undergoing renovation. Nonetheless, we caught a bus up Mt Faber to see another view of the city in daylight. This was really good. We headed to Chinatown where we did a little bit of shopping! In the evening, we headed to the shopping mall near to our hotel where we feasted on some fish and chips and enjoyed the huge arcade. We played on this basketball game which was ace.
On our last day, we got up late and enjoyed a chinese for lunch/breakfast! We went on a search for a post office to send off all our souvenirs as our bags were far too heavy to take to Oz! Look out for a huge box in the post Lucy and Stephen! We chilled for the rest of the day, after playing the basketball again! We fitted in a trip to Raffles Hotel where we shared a Singapore Sling cocktail in the Long Bar. They were $35 so we only got one! It was really sweet but i like it! Just like a jesticle (cocktail from jesters for those of you who don't know!) lol Peanuts were complimentary and you just chuck the shells on the floor. Jonny was loving that you could do that so he was doing it the entire time! It was so bizarre that there were peanut shells all over the floor! Weird because this place was so posh!
The previous day we had signed up to this free open top bus tour of Orchard Road (a huge shopping street) set up for tourists. As it was free we thought why not. It took us on a 20 minute ride down the street to see all the christmas lights - the bus was even playing christmas tunes! The lights were good but the trip wasn't amazing but hey it was free! and i love christmas songs! Making me a bit home sick!
Singspore is an amazing city. We both love it - one of the best places we have been on our trip. We both loved the englishness of it all!
We cannot believe we are going to Oz! Ahhhhhhh!!!
Hope all is well at home
Love to all, Kirsty and Jonny xxx
