Day 109 (Sunday 4th February 2007)
We cleared off from our scary campsite and while Jay went home to spend a little time with his old man before he went away on business for a few days, we found a lovely little greasy cafe to have breakfast.
We were having fun, we hadn't done a lot for a while and Surfers wasn't quite as bad as we thought it would be, so we went in search for a place to stay for another night. We couldn't stay in another hole like last time so for just a few more dollars more we found an excellent motel for the night.
The Holiday North was perfect and our apartment had a large bedroom with a queensize bed, another bed in the living room, a kitchenette, underground parking (with an electric fence), air con, swimming pool and spa outside, balcony and best of all, 'foxtel' tv (sky)!
Marc put the air con on, kicked back on the sofa and got straight on it...Boro' v Arsenal had just started! Down to 10-men and another storming comeback...what a team! The boys deserved all 3-points...Senderos deserved shooting! Can't we give him to Spartans or something? In fact scrap that, he ain't no Torr or the 'Beast'!
Meanwhile Sarah collapsed on the single bed, sleeping off a bit of that Jim Beam!
Later in the day Marc went back to pick up Jay, before cooking the three of us a lovely curry. We chilled out in our apartment watching tv and listening to music before Marc, true to form, hit the sack! The other two alchies put a few more drinks away before bed.
PS Thanks for your message Dan mate. Goodluck with the guitar...Marc got a guitar for his 21st Birthday and all he can play on it is 'Horse With No Name'...it has two chords! Very tedious. Maybe you and him could go busking when we get back, or form a double act, write a few number one hits, get rich and famous, quit your jobs at BDML, punch Rumi in the face and travel the world??? You better get that qualification just in case...
Day 110 (Monday 5th February 2007)
Upon relaxing in the motel spa that morning, we decided we could well do with one more night of this kind of indulgence.
With the room re-booked, snorkelling was the agenda for the day. Before we could get our new 'K-mart' fins out of their packet (and new snorkel for Sarah - thanks Wardy) we had to take Jay back so he could grab a few extra things.
We should have known by now that that can take anything upto 2-hours and by the time he'd faffed around, we finally made our way back to the coast. Marc did find a deflated basketball by the garage and a few keepy-ups on the drive way helped contain his inpatience.
Finally by the jetty at Surfers then and the local dive centre revealed that due to the tide times it was too dangerous to snorkel...brilliant! According to them however, we could still snorkel at a place named Coolangatta about half an hour drive away.
We jumped back in the ute and having stopped twice for directions, we found the snorkelling spot. Jay whacked the ute in 4WD and drove us out onto the beach. The off-road driving was great fun...the snorkelling was rubbish!
There was nothing to see but sand and the current was so strong we nearly ended up back at Surfers! There was only one thing for it...out came the deflated basketball and Marc and Jay had a kickabout on the beach.
It was a great moment for Marc who hadn't kicked a footy for near on 4-months. The feeling wasn't quite so good later on mind, him and Jay left without any skin on their feet...ouch! There was just enough time for some cheesy photos before we headed back to our apartment for the night.
Marc, yes Marc, cooked dinner for the second night running, this time treating us all to his mum's award-winning homemade fishcakes...yum! Feeling pretty fat, we played the board game 'Game of Life'. Sarah absolutely wiped the floor with the boys and with the time now nearing 23:00, Marc was falling asleep.
With the big game tomorrow between England and New Zealand, Marc hit the sack (yeah like he needs an excuse) and despite his advice, Sarah stayed up to all hours of the night playing cards with Jay...tut tut tut!
