I knew this would be jollys favourite stop, for one reason only - Beer Halls. I'm not sure I can explain the scale here, but you sit in these huge gardens drinking 1L steins of beer, with thousands of other people (actually thousands). They are HUGE. If you separate Bavaria from the rest of Germany, they drink more beer than everyone in the world - over 200L each a year. I can see why, a lot of pubs only serve beer in 1L containers, the drinking age is 12 and it is even served with breakfast. I'm not sure jolly will drink out of a pint glass again.
Munich was almost completely destroyed during WW2, but amazingly before the war, hitler had ordered every photographer and artist in the city to record every detail of the city and stored these plans safe from the bombing so after the war, the city could be rebuilt exactly the same - down to the smallest detail.
The Nazi party started in Munich so a lot of the walking tour we did focused on that and also told the story of the German resistance, and the fact that Hitler only had a minority of the German vote to be elected.
