It's hard to believe we are even in the same country as we were 2 days ago. Puerto Viejo feels more like you are in Jamaica than Costa Rica. There are rasta guys everywhere, jerk chicken at every turn, market stalls lining the beach, and reggae music being played from bars along the beach.
Our first day we hired bikes and rode along the main beach road, which connects 5 or 6 beach towns and it's dotted with nice little resturants and bars. It was about 12km long and it was a pretty cool bike ride, jungle one side of the road, palm trees and white sand beaches on the other. We went to a lovely restuarant and ate chicken with rice and peas and plantain. You will notice this theme alot over the next week or so I think.
Our second day, it was boiling hot so we decided to stay close to home, we had breakfast at a local cafe called 'Bread and Chocolate' - perfect huh? Spent the morning sorting out a few things with the trip and then headed to the beach for a day. The water was beautiful - crystal clear and warm. Oh and the coolest thing about this town - the local dogs take themselves for a swim at the beach when they get a bit hot, then go back home.
We also found out that our Amazon trip has been cancelled due to tourists being kidnapped last month, so we have had to change our plans and instead we are heading to Panama for a week.
Next stop Bocas del toro....
