I'm currently residing in Scarborough, a beach town not too far from Perth having arrived here on Saturday...
I last wrote on on Wednesday morning... which I now realise was about 6.30am local time... woops... my cause was not helped by the fact the clock on the computer was also two hours fast making me think it was 8.30am and not such a unreasonable time to me awake, showered and blogging... I only actually realised it was so early having ventured into the outside world and realised everything was closed... Anyway I went back to bed!! I though I need at least a couple more hours sleep. Unfortunately I woke up seven hours later!!
With much of the day gone all we did was venture into Perth city for a few hours in the evening to see what it was like. After a quick beer we headed back to Fremantle and had a few more beers in a bar round there and myself Julian (who bumped into a Joburg airport) pretty much just b****ed about how much we missed South Africa...!
The following day (Thursday) we moved onto a new hostel in Northside in Perth City itself... described in my book as one of the coolest places in town it had clearly fallen upon hard times as it longer even had a bar and was in desperate need of a spruce up!!
We spent the day just mooching around the Northside, popped into the Western Austrlia art gallery (fun!) and museum as well... they were free... mooched about a bit more and then went onto Kings Park and had some lunch...
The evening was looking like it was going to be pretty quiet until I invited myself to a short trip to a nightclub around midnight with an English and Irish guy who were staying in the hostel... was good fun and I even remember the night!
Friday wasn't massively productive... got up late and booked some flights, excursions etc... the evening was a big one in the hostel though and I got extremely drunk. I don't remember everything but I think I had a good time and ATM withdrawals explain why...
Saturday we moved onto Scarborough where I still reside until tomorrow... it's a chilled out beach town so most of the last few days have been spent chilling on the beach or trying to overcome lingering jet lag. An obviously high of my time here though is Sunday night when a Maori dude staying in the hostel taught a group of about 10 of us part of the haka dance. It was great fun and whilst teaching us the dance he also taught us the meaning which actually made it quite a powerful moment and also a great experience...
Tomorrow I fly to Alice Springs in the centre of Australia. From Thursday I have an outback camping trip planned... should be fun, I'll keep you posted...
Much love, John xxx
P.S. LSB crew... they are currently playing Bohemian Rhapsody in the internet cafe and I'm struggling to resist the temptation to smack my hands on the table!!!!
