So here we are blog number 1. I have successfully negotiated my way to Cape Town in South Africa.
Observations so far - well it's different. The hostel seems pretty happening but clearly I'm going to have to re-adjust my expectations compared to the 5 star luxury work pays for(!)
Hostel is run by a Londoner who seemed mightily impressed when I informed him I am a West Ham. I've already been pointed in the of a restuarant owned by a West Ham fan and places to watch the game tonight. He also reassures me that as long as I stay on the beaten track I've got nothing to worry about but like any big city it has it's problems with pickpockets etc... my first stroll around Cape Town showed me exactly what he was talking about, people do seem to "lirk" around... some I'm sure perfectly innocently, some not I'm guessing... like East London in many ways!
Anyway, nothing much to report so far as I've only just arrived. We've already had John cock-up number one though... I paid 140 ZAR for a shuttle from the airport... when I got to the hostel they told my complimentary pick-up had been waiting for me with five other people on the same flight... woops!
Wish this thing had a spell check... next time hopefully I'll have something to say that is vaguely interesting!!
