The rare sighting
Day one at Sabi Sabi started at 5.30 am, wake up call. We left the camp at 6.30 and travel south looking for lions . There had been a sighting the three days before ,two male lions had brought down a rhino. We drove with anticipation but nothing accept for kudu and impala, this was not a good start . It was one of these impala sighting that brought the group a rich reward, I spotted a rhino mixed in with them and as it turn out it would the be , again the rarest of sightings. The rhino we were all now looking at just 20 meters away was the rare and endangered black rhino,Mike our driver was over the moon as he had not seen this particular male before and he told us to see these rhino was as rare as hens teeth , 1,because of were they prefer to live and 2,because there are so few left in Kruger park because of poaching . We continue to search for lions, but the next animal was a male elephant,he was quite large. We continue on all satisfied in knowing we had just seen something spectacular , which now gave our group the privilege of seeing the two rarest thing in Africa. We arrived back in camp for breakfast around 9.00 am.
At 10 Shirley and I decided to go adventuring in the bush in search of wild beasts, our guide with his 307 riffle was also there just in case. This was something new and it took an hour and a half. It was a boiling hot day so we were glad that it started early before heat of the day . We did see antelope and lizards but our big scalp was a small family of elephants , we arrived in camp adjust in time for lunch.
The afternoon safari started well , 10 minutes into the trip a double sighting a herd of elephant and two white rhino side by side. Alas this was the last sighting of any kind of large animal and it was left to night birds ,bat and chameleon . The story of the spotting of the chameleon is tale that will be told for year to come . We driving along looking for what had now become the invisible lions , travelling at probably 15ks an hr ,when suddenly our tracker points to left meaning that something was in the bush , we all got excited as we thought , eyes we have found a large cat of some sort, it wasn't a lion but it was a chameleon ,it was 25 millimetres high and approximately 100 mills long , Patrick saw this while sweeping a torch from side to side travelling at the above speed, that in it self amazed us. Again we arrived in camp with no great stories of what had been seen but in time for dinner.
Dinner was a five course degustation with a chose of 1,2,and main meal. We were seated in a beautifull table out under the stars with the night life sound echoing through the stillness. I'm not good at describing food so I took pictures ,as we know ,a picture says a thousand word .
Tomorrow maybe a positive experience and that means total excitement ,so until then it's goodbye
Thinking of all of you luv
