Afternoon walking tour and gondola ride.

This afternoon we went on an organised walking tour of San Marco and on a short Gondola trip.

The walking tour took us through some of the areas of San Marco whilst the tour guide provided us with information on the history of the city, how the people lived and took us past some of the landmarks and unusual buildings in the City. The only down side of the tour was the group size. In the narrow streets of Venice, it was just too many people to work really effectively as we got strung out along the smaller lane ways, plus we blocked some areas which would have upset others.

Following the walking tour we were taken to the canal for our Gondola ride. Each gondola can seat 6. We were seated with two other couples. The tour wound its way through some of the canals and the out onto the Grand Canal for a short stretch before completing a loop through San Marco. After the tour we visited the Piazza S. Marco and walked along the waterfront. If we get time tomorrow after our Murano tour we will visit S. Marco Basilica.
