After the early morning walk I returned to the hotel to get ready for the day. We had breakfast at the hotel on the roof terrace that over looks the city.

After breakfast we set off on foot to explore the city. Our first stop was the colosseum. Such a difference at this time in the morning with the site crawling with tourists. We didn't go inside today but walked past and around Palatine Hill and the Forum. Along the way we came across a local food market and stopped inside to sample cheeses, meats and sauces.

After the markets we continued further into the city where we found a restaurant and had lunch. Following lunch we encountered a shopping district where we browsed the shops. As I need new clothes we stopped in a menswear shop where we received some personalised service and walked out with two pairs of trousers and a new jacket.

Our journey continued to meander through the city streets heading for Borghese Gardens. We actually walked past the Spanish Steps without seeing them so we will have to return later to see them. The park was nice to wander through with many locals and tourists enjoying the last day of spring.

After the park we headed back to the hotel to rest our feet. After a bit of a rest we had an evening drink on the roof terrace before heading out for dinner. Dinner was nice, although too many carbs for me. A leisurely stroll saw us back at the hotel for the night.
