What a way to wake up! We have red curtains in our suite and and the sun made the whole room glow with a red hue. I made some coffee and enjoyed the sun and view of the ocean from our balcony while I waited for Kim to wake up. it's so nice to just sit and relax. The coffee isn't the best but it was nice to have.
For breakfast we went to the Grand Pacific, a restaurant that's a little fancier than the buffet line, and is located at the very rear of the ship. We got seated by the rear windows which was nice as we got to watch the water as we sailed away. We both got the eggs benedict, though I got the smoked salmon with spinach and a dill hollandaise sauce, while Kim got the standard. We also ordered a round of bloody mary's which were very good, no fixings but plenty of spice!!
After breakfast we accidentally made a trip through the casino and got trapped by the Elvis coin pusher game. We won some very cool dice that had been used at the craps table (each valued at about $10. Not actual value, but what we kinda spent on each of them...) Somehow we managed to pull ourselves away from the casino and make it back to the room to get ready for our day-trip in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
We got killed by the heat today. It was blazing!! Dubrovnik was a short trip for us, but it was pretty darn interesting. It's basically a fortress town. Everything is behind a hide wall so you have to climb a lot of stairs to even get a view of the sea. The streets are paved in what looks like marble. At first I thought the street was wet but really they had just been polished by centuries of footsteps. Kind of mind boggling.
We sampled the local Croatian beer in an Irish pub, which was quite tasty. Then it was off to walk the town. We found a monastery which had a lime tree with the biggest limes I've ever seen. They were ginormous! We walked through the backstreets for a while dying in the heat. There was this doorway with a couple necklaces and scarves hanging up that was a little unclear if it was a store or not but we went in anyway. Inside we found the cutest old lady. She kept showing Kim bracelets and necklaces saying stuff like "you are so beautiful everything looks great on you" and "this is a very special piece but it is not for you" and "you are so tall you make anything look good". She was also very fond of my beard, and when I told her I was Lebanese she a) asked me if I knew khalil Gibran and b) did not believe me that my name was John. She also gave me a glass of tonic water, unfortunately there was no gin in it. But it was cold so it was nice after being in the heat. We tried to buy something but the kuna we had was too big of a bill and she didn't want to break it so we left with a promise to come back once we had broken the bill, but never did. I wouldn't exactly call it lying as we didn't end up buying anything else until we were waiting to get on the little boat to take us back to the ship. We had a glass of a very delicious rose wine. It was seriously good. We were very impressed.
After we got back to the boat we headed to the pool and swam for a bit. Then went and got ready for dinner. We brought with us a glass of our favorite wine, Adamant Cellers tempernillo. It was fun walking around the boat with big glasses of wine. We went to the tapas bar for dinner and ordered the il pollo and lobster tacos. It was amazing, but the peppers are kind of spicy...
We were going to go to the magic show but decided instead to do a little magic if our own and make some more of our money dissapear in the casino. We have now placed a self inflicted ban on that place. We ended the night watching the only movie that was in English on the tv: Kung foo panda two. Overall it was a pretty good day.
