Sharm el Sheikh is a resort town across the red sea in the north east of Egypt. There are two nice bays, one at Sharm and one at Na'ama with low rise hotels from the big chains, complete with a few shopping malls and some local shops but no history or sightseeing today.
Queen Mary 2 was greeted by a one man disco who played the Egyptian music so loud it could be heard for miles! We shared a taxi from the port with our friends Sue and Nick to the Marriott Beach Resort at Na'ama Bay. This very clean and modern hotel is right on the beach with a huge pool and had great sunloungers.
The waiters took good care of us bringing drinks and coffee and we had lunch at the Italian restaurant in the hotel which was very good, although a little expensive.
In the sea were many coloured fish, pipe fish and parrot fish but also lots of jelly fish. Stuart went snorkelling and on the way out of the water had his leg stung by a jelly fish but this was soon fixed by our friendly waiter and some lemon juice.
Fortunately for us, a group of Arab guys where staying at the hotel and decided to have photo shoot by the hotel photographer right beside our sunloungers, our favourite "model" Osama was very friendly and offered himself for us to take pictures. We thought it would be rude not to! Inside the hotel was a small shopping arcade with a wonderful shop selling perfumes and Stuart stopped by to meet Oli and buy some of his oils.
A quick taxi ride and we were back at the ship. An Egyptian guy was doing a dance show on his own with what looked like a huge sombrero, he made us join in much to the amusement of all the passengers hanging over the side of the ship watching.
We head through the Suez Canal tomorrow before we meet the Mediterranean and our last port calls of Rome on Wednesday, Monte Carlo on Thursday and Barcelona on Friday.
