As we have to go under the radar for a few days Mandy is keeping a manual log which we will upload as and when we get a chance
We got up at quarter to seven, had a cup of tea, or coffee in John's case and he had peanut butter on toast with jam, yuk. (When in Rome do as Rome does. Thats all there is here as it is what all these teenage travellers eat for breakfast!) We got all our stuff together then went outside for a fag, John went on the computer for a while and I read my book, then at about twenty past nine we got a taxi to the Airport - There is only one in K.K so we couldn't go wrong. booked our bags in then had to wait until eleven to go through departures, had a look around the shop's and had a coffee ( John is getting as bad as Dave) (Sorry about that Dave I do not have powers of sensorship). Boarded the plane at twenty to twelve and took off within minutes. The plane went up to about elevenetyseven feet went straight for a little while the started it's descent, we had pre ordered an Asian meal which arrived just as the seatbelt light came on for landing so we had to shovel it down before the plane landed. Got off plane to find a very small Airport with no checks or passport control, easy peasy, got a taxi to Sandakan water front, wandered arround for a bit then stopped for - no wait for it a soft drink. Saw a hostel right on the front so John went and had a look, booked us in for Thurs through Sat, he also went and found some boy's who were selling cigerettes, 200 Marlboro for Rm 50, works out about 75p a packet. We didnt have to carry our packs far to find a taxi to Gum Gum to the ops base of Uncle Tan, Wildlife Adventures not a bad place it has three dorms each with 3 bunks in, their are only four staying tonight including us so we got one dorm and a couple of girls got another. (Actually I was a bit shocked when we arived. The place looked due for demolition and was surounded by squallor, but when we went inside, the rooms were clean and functional and the people were as usual very friendly, Oh Yes and they were preparing our dinner! J) Before dinner we had a bit of a walk down along the village street which was lined with wooden stilt houses on both sides some a bit rickety looking but all with sky dishes or Borneo's equivilent. We still had a bit of time to kill before so we went back to the dorm, I read my book while he had a kip (Well wat's wrong with that?). At sevenish we where called down to dinner, rice, chicken and three veg dishes, all laid out in plastic bowls , buffet style. Went out for a fag then up to the room to sort our stuff out for tomorrow. We were in bed by nine without one alcoholic beverage passing our lips today. (There was beer available at the B&B but we just didn't realise it at the time (Photos to follow shortly as this computor is out of the Ark!)
