Getting off the ferry from the mainland we headed over to our own wee A-frame bungalow, between the national park rainforest and the beach. We took it easy for the morning and relaxed on horseshoe bay before heading back to our digs which also run a wildlife sanctuary/hospital.
Had a guided tour and let the big talking parrots sit on us which tried to scratch our arms off when they took random mood swings.Seen a few cros and handled a 2 year old salt water, tho its mouth was taped shut cos it could have easily amputated a few fingers for us. Was alot stronger but softer than thought but managed to keep a grip of the strong wee boy alrite. The lizards were weird as we took turns holding them with their big long tongues flicking in and out. We gave a Koala a hug for a while before getting a snake wrapped around our necks. Much more interactive than Australia Zoo. Took a walk through the bush then got attacked by a few hundred parrots, Jo has quite a few cuts on her arms!
Sorted ourselves out with our own passion wagon the next day, a wee convertable Moke, much a like a mini, wee flying machine. Great craic to drive about the island. Went to picnic bay and took a hike through the bush and up to Hawkings point, a big rock on top of the hill on the coast. Seen a few snakes and heard alot more on the way up but no death adders thankfully. 9th most poisonous snake in the world and the island just had to be full of them. There was great views from the top and we headed back around to the far side stopping off at the Marine national park along the way. Seen alot of fish from the shore and alot more wallabies wandering about.
Rallied about the island quite a bit and headed for the Forts from WWII up atop some of the mountains. Spotted a few Koalas sleeping in the trees. Couldnt get round to radical bay because of some forest fires so got a wee bottle of wine and a feed of crackers and cheese which we devoured on the beach while watching the sun go down.
