Easter time!
We decided to go to Townsville and Magnetic Island, which is nearly 4 hours drive North from here. The drive was spectacular as we could see the landscapes for lots of kilometers because nothing is in your way! except some hills far far away!:)
Townville is small city (compared to Brisbane but waaaaay bigger than Airlie). there is a big port with ships leaving for places all over the world. It also has it own small brewery but unfortunately Australia has a funny rule for Good Friday. People are not allowed to sell alcohol, so all the pubs and most of the restaurants are closed. And the one which are open only sell alcohol if you order a meal. Funny way to celebrate a public holiday!:)
On Friday afternoon we went as well to a sanctuary which is a park with animals. we saw crocodiles, turtles, koalas, we could feed Wallabis and a Black Kakadu which were free around the park, saw a show with venemous snakes. I decided to save my money instead of doing a pictures with a Koala which would have costed $16. Way too expensive!:)
On Saturday we went early to the ferry which took us to Magnetic Island. After check-in, first drinks and a cooling jump into the swimming pool, Oli wanted to go fishing! (What else??!! ) We weren't successful at all but finally met a weird guy who invited us on his houseboat. we agreed halfhearted but finally had a very good time and the opportunity to go around the island on a small boat (a tinny). so the next day, here we go, first time on a small boat on the sea! Great feeling as it is hot, blue sky but the wind from the drive refreshing!:) bad luck we got sun.burned but even this was worth it!!:)
After a romantic evening with Oli on the sea side at the hostel we drove back from this cool trip and stopped quickly at Bowen, well-known for its beaches but nearly more for its Mangos plantation and farms. we stopped at the Horseshoe Bay, and climbed the rocks to have a great vue over the ocean!:)
That was a great first trip! and Sharky was very loyal to us!:)
