ello again, I feel well and truly back in the land of communication now. Although i miss everyone from the station is kind of nice to get back in touch with the outside world. So now I´m going to fill you in on what else I've been up to apart from the tours.Monday 24th - Wednesday 26th NovemberThese were the 3 days before the 4 day tour at the station. Monday and Tuesday at work were pretty normal days of machetting. On Tuesday afternoon we picked wild coffee (not cultivated). The coffee is growing on the way to the small waterfall near the station. It grows in trees and the berries are red. I think it´s be easier to pick cultivated coffee as this was high up in the trees. Luckily the trees are pretty bendy and thin so if you maneuvere correctly you don´t have to do any climbing. The downside to coffee picking is the fire ants! I think I've written about them before… they are b*stards! The ants are small and red and when they bite it is like being on fire.. and they like warm dry places so the bra is ideal…. Not comfortable as you can imagine! So now i´ve picked the coffee, dried it, shelled, roasted and drunk it. It´s a pretty long process but I´ve learnt something. How satisfying to know how it all works… I´ll never think of my skinny latte in the same way again.Tuesday night was the last night of a German guy called Jorn, so that means a journey to the bar. It was a fun but messy night. Mainly messy because I tried to dance salsa, fun because of the downhill pool. I´m going to try and introduce that to London, possibly for 2012….. The night inevitably was going to be fun as we all skipped the beer and went straight onto the rum… whoops!Wednesday was painful but turned into a really fun day. The national park asked Jatun Sacha to supply a lot a saplings grown in the nursery for reforestation of endemic species, so on wed they sent a truck for all of us and the plants and we were driven to the Galapagara. The truck that came carried about 15 of us in the back as well as plants… squashy and a little scary. But it did a good job of blowing my hang over away. I was facing backwards in the back of the truck so the people facing me had to shout each time there were low hanging trees.. I´ve still got my head so they did a good job. The drive to the Galapagara is about 1 hour. Once there we planted the trees and then wentto Playa Chino. It is the same beach I went to in the first week and is beautiful . We all got in the water and jumped the waves, and then a sea turtle came and swam with us…. Gorgeous (p.s can I have one for Christmas???? And what are the turtles in Finding Nemo called? I have a silver necklace with one on now and need to name it).On the way back to the station the truck got a flat tyre. It is law here that all trucks have to carry a spare tyre…. But guess what…. No jack! All of us piled out of the truck and had to figure out how to lift it to change the tyre. Even with all of us trying to pick the truck up we could barely get it off the ground. One of the boys went and found a piece of wood to lever it up with… but this almost cost me my leg! The wood was put under the truck, over a rock and 3 people stood on the end. They asked for 1 more person to stand on the wood too… I was closestso did and just when I got near it swung out and whacked me in the shin…. I had a pretty impressive bruise but feel lucky it didn´t break! On Wed night we were in port in preparation for the 4 day tour.
